Total Healthcare for Women of All Ages
Its no secret that healthy living and early detection of disease increase not only your length of life, but also your quality of life.
It is important to work together with your physician to get the crucial medical tests that can safeguard your healththrough all the decades of your life.
Important Protections for Young Women
Starting at age 21, or around three years after becoming sexually active, young women need an annual Pap test to detect any abnormal cell changes that could lead to cervical cancer.
If the annual Pap test shows abnormal cell growth, a follow-up HPV test should be done. HPV is a sexually transmitted infection that is the leading cause of cervical cancer. The test looks for viruses that can cause abnormal cell changes in the cervix.
A new breakthrough HPV vaccine is now available to protect against the viruses that cause 90% of cervical cancers. Talk to your doctor to find out if an HPV test is needed and if the protective vaccine is right for you.
Well Woman Exam
This exam is performed in four parts: the health history, and a physical exam that includes a breast exam, pelvic exam and an assessment for other health problems. Always remember to discuss all your health issues with your doctor. He or she is your best source for advice on staying healthy.
Keeping a Healthy Heart
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for American women. The best protection is an annual test of total cholesterol levels including HDL good and LDL bad, as well as blood fats known as triglycerides.
High blood pressure and diabetes also affect your overall heart health. Talk to your doctor about tests that can help prevent and treat conditions that can be detrimental to your heart.
Breast Diagnostic Services
Women over 40 should get a mammogram screening for early detection of breast disease every one or two years. Experts say if there is a history of breast cancer in your family, you should start getting mammograms at an earlier age.
Spring Branch Medical Center offers the new Softer Mammogram® technology with a soft cushion that makes it easier to be calm, relaxed and warm during your exam. This helps our highly skilled mammography technologists achieve the best possible imaging results.
Colon Disease Prevention
Colon cancer is not just a mans disease. Excluding skin cancer, it is the third most common cancer in men and in women in the U.S.
The medical community recommends women should get a colonoscopy every 10 years after the age of 50, and more often if theres a history of colon cancer in your family.
Safeguarding Your Skin
Starting at age 18, every woman should visit a dermatologist annually for a head-to-toe check for unusual brown or red spots that might develop into something more serious. The number of new melanoma cases in the U.S. is on the risea condition that causes the most skin cancer deaths.
Gynecological Procedures
Spring Branch Medical Center has highly experienced surgeons on staff who specialize in gynecological procedures. Whether its a minimally invasive hysterectomy or exploratory procedure, you are in the best hands at Spring Branch Medical Center.
